Ever since I can remember there’s always been a cat in my life. When I was born, my parents had a beautiful long-haired, domestic male named Blueboy. His fur was so very soft!
And when I was six years old my mother took me and my older twin sisters to a house about a mile away where there was a litter of kittens. We may have gone to “just look”, but you know how that goes! We adopted a short-haired, grey tiger and on the long walk home my mom let me carefully carry the box he was in. I felt like I was carrying a precious treasure and even when he’d poke his head up I was sure not to let him jump out of the box. We named him “Pooh”.
Pooh was very affectionate and I loved it when he’d sleep with me. During my senior year of college Pooh sadly passed away. As much as I missed him, it wasn’t long before I adopted two black kittens from the same litter at my hometown shelter. Anthony and Cleopatra.
“Cleo” was with me for over 19 years! She became my confidant through multiple relationships, many moves, and an assortment of major life events. After Cleo passed, my mom wrote in a letter that Cleo may have known me better than anyone else! That is true!
As devastated as I was to lose her, I knew my destiny was to continue adopting, rescuing and being a “fur-mom” to many cats! And that I have – for over six decades now!
My mantra, “Life IS better with a cat” !!!!
